But who knew what a sordid and volatile past soap has had! Soap has been around for at least 4,800 years: even the ancient Egyptians used a substance that was similar to our modern soap. Research the history. It involves heavy taxation, gangsters, entertainment (soap opera, anyone?), the cause of fuel shortages and even explosives! 🧨 In 1853 it was discovered that glycerine, a once discarded product of soap making, could be used as nitroglycerin in the newly invented dynamite!💥Pretty serious stuff for something so common and ordinary now.
